There are three women that I know off the top of my head that need this bag immediately. I am one of them. (The other two are Lisa S. and Adrianne, in case you were interested.)

I dig the T.T. bag, too - but this O.G. bag from Lo & Sons has my over-committed name all over it. And what's not to love about the purple/lilac interior and gold hardware?

I may at some point own both (but not right now at almost $300.00/each), but until then, I'm going to opt for the O.G. because I almost always wear heels, but it's not always practical to do a lot of walking or traveling in them. So it's a great option for hiding away shoes on the go.

I think I saw CamilleStyles tweet about this bag? That must have been it. And it must have been fate!

These pictures are just beautiful and I've already seen so many fantastic vintage scarves in her collection that I would've loved to own had they not already sold out!

More Eco-Friendly Shoes...

I've been telling a lot of people lately about how it's actually not THAT hard to go eco-friendly, and even cruelty-free altogether (no animal skins or furs), with shoes and accessories. (Seriously y'all, it's Easy Being Green!) So I thought I'd share some resources that make it easy-peasy to find eco-friendly shoes - and a few of my favorite recent eco-friendly finds.

Zappos
Best shoe site ever. So of course they make it easy!

You can even leave your email on that page to be notified when new vegetarian products are added. Genius! (That's also REALLY smart marketing right there.)

Zappos also has a kick-ass e-commerce feature which allows you to show product results based on categories of your choosing. I chose womens, eco-friendly, shoes and received 476 results - http://www.zappos.com/womens-eco-friendly-shoes~g! The only problem is what flies as "eco-friendly" isn't always cruelty-free. Zappos does do a great job however of describing their products well and detailing what all parts of the shoes (upper, sole, etc.) are made of - and I appreciate that.

I'm really diggin' Timberland's new "Earthkeepers" collection, but they're not leather and suede free unfortunately. Timberland would totally have my vote if they were using recycled leather like they are recycled PET (plastic bottles). I would have no problem buying shoes that reclaimed leather from old shoes instead of using new leather, for what it's worth.

They have a fun ad campaign running for this line, too:

Garmz - For Realz

I'm going to go on the record here and tell y'all that my homie Sonny Byrd actually came up with this idea first, but apparently someone outside of the States beat him to market. (I'm still encouraging him to be first to market here in the US, for what it's worth ;-).) (And in full disclosure, I have no idea if he was really first, but let's just all be good sports and assume he really was.)

Back to the post at hand here, Sonny sent me an email this morning with the following subject line: "FML". He was a little bummed to see the following site making waves in the fashion world before he could.

Garmz is a site that allows designers to upload their designs to the site, have the population at large vote on them, and possibly some day, see them go to production. Garmz then shares the sales revenue with the original designer. The concept totally breaks down the barriers to entry typically found in the fashion world and can potentially get trends to market seasons ahead of traditional fashion houses and retail brands.

I *love* a good heel. Not like - LOVE.

I do NOT love round or platform toe heels. I can deal with round toe for a super cute shoe (I have found and purchased maybe two of these, ever, so they do exist), but I can NOT deal with an overly-platform toe. They just remind me too much of stripper shoes.

There. I've said it.

Give me a pointy-toe (or peep-toe) or nothing at all!

PS: Update for Lisa S. and my mom (who asked if I was hinting at these for Christmas). As some of you may remember, I made a commitment to not purchase any leather goods anymore, because there are so many non-animal alternatives out there. Both of these shoes are leather products, so I wouldn't buy them for myself nor would I wishlist them. I'm surprised that both are actually real leather, to be honest. Many, many products now are made from vinyl or faux products, so keep an eye out for those and let me know if any look like these cute shoes. Love the style, not a fan of the raw materials. ;-)

Anyways, it's sort of like Netflix for shoes. Except that they're not used and you get to keep them. Ok, so they're actually more like an assumed grocery delivery service/CSA program. Essentially, every month they send you personalized picks based on your style profile and then you pick a pair you actually want to own and it's shipped to you for $39.95 -- with free shipping. (And what they call "easy exchanges", but I can't speak for that... yet.)

The only catch is that you have to "skip" if you don't want the recurring charge (so from a revenue perspective they're probably banking on you just forgetting to do so within the 1st and 5th of the month), but for shoes... I feel like I could make this a regular thing. Or end up with a pair of shoes. Win-win? Yes, yes!

Today's recommendations based on my style quiz results (first below) that I would so say "yes" to:

The only thing that doesn't work on me is buying 12 new pairs of shoes in a year, potentially. As much as I love shoes, I actually don't buy THAT many a year. Again, I could make this work and not end up with 12 pairs of shoes... or maybe some great gifts for my fellow Size 8 ladies? (Actually, I think you can select which size you want for each order. So the gift idea would certainly work!)

So, what do you readers think? Sold? If I take the plunge and commit to the first pair, you can bet I'll be following up this post with a few pictures of the newly arrived shoe goodness and a review of the quality and ShoeDazzle experience!

Oscar de la Renta is one of my high-end favorites, so it was no surprise when I loved the back cover ad of this month's Traditional Home magazine (actually, it's technically the October 2010 issue)... it's a Lee Jofa home textiles collection inspired by De la Renta's fashion.

As far as the reviews go, there is one really negative on the blue and one really positive on the orange set... so take your pick. The negative review on the blue talks it being about a cheap dress, which at $26, it clearly is. So it might be a gamble, because of Overstock.com's awkward no-return policy on this item ("Non-Returnable Item Policy: This item is not returnable unless the problem you experience is the result of our error."), which is what I think upset the shopper more than anything... and she's totally justified in that.

Back to the dresses though... how cute are they for summer? Put them with a cute pair of flip flops (I'm not a fan of platform or tall heels with short dresses) and you've got yourself a winning summer outfit!

Fab Finds at Crate & Barrel

Crate & Barrel is one of those stores where I could easily spend a huge chunk of change (you know, right alongside Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, Pier 1, and Restoration Hardware).

I was pretty happy though to flip through a catalog Nick and I received in the mail recently and find a few really great pieces and collections with budget-friendly price points! The cover of the catalog did read after all, "affordable best buys for every room in your new home". Although the entire catalog wasn't super affordable, these are some of my favorites!

I saw these boots in Garden & Gun magazine this morning and came home and looked them up. Unfortunately, there is very little chance I will actually buy them now, because they honestly just made me work too hard for it. (Ignore the rest of the outfit picture below... I'm only talking about the boots in this post.)

Why do I think the link to the product site is useless?
1. There's no pricing info (not even ranges). *Slaps forehead*.
2. You can't buy online there. (Shopify people! It's cheap, easy, and looks nice!)
3. Their list of retailers doesn't include any in my area. Boo :-(
4. The include Amazon.com as an online retailer, but no direct link. So I had to go to Amazon and then try and find them there... just to see how much they are compared to Hunter boots (since they look so similar).

So, in case you're looking for these boots in particular on Amazon, here is the direct link!

I would possibly consider paying $100.00 for these (if I couldn't find similar elsewhere for less, because I like the look of the gold with denim), but their other boots are $400.00. Now that, I wouldn't do.

... was over this most recent New Year's holiday.

Adrianne and I were shopping for the night out and I really wanted to wear either a plain cute dress or shirt with a fabulous (really long) necklace. I didn't find what I wanted at the mall (no surprise there, it's probably the most uninspired place ever) and of course, you can't shop online if you want it that day!

Joint Venture Estate Jewelers is a Cary, NC retailer owned by the mom and dad of Jen, one of my sorority sisters, and I just saw this necklace in their monthly email (do sign up/become a fan on facebook!).

Of course, I totally missed my chance - it's now sold. Dang!

...is FINDING exactly what you want! I have this problem all the time. I often have an idea in my head of what I want and that makes it nearly impossible to find what I want. (Or, sometimes I find it and it's WAY more than I want to spend. Bummer.)

Currently on my WANTed list... some cute business dresses! I have a ton in black, I want more colors and I definitely must get a gray one ASAP (they go great with colored tights - something I'm a big fan of right now).

Jeans: Brands, Where to Buy, and Where to Get a Deal

1 - James Jeans. I usually get mine on sale at the Uniquities basement/attic sales or at Accessorize with Pi Phi. I will now also be replenishing from their outlet site I found out about right before Black Friday (they finally used my email address for something!). The prices were REALLY good on Black Friday (I'm talking $60.00), but they're still better than full retail even without the Black Friday pricing.

PS - I assume their outlet site is up all year, but right now the homepage still advertises pricing effective through 12/31/2009.... so we'll have to see where this one goes.

2 - Rock Revival. From Bevello. I've also blogged about these. They are fantastic - a little stretchier than James, but still a great fit from both.

Short and Sweet: I Heart PJs

I am a pajama, PJ, sleepwear, loungewear (whatever you want to call it) girl. In a big way.

Don't get me wrong, I love getting dressed on a daily basis. I just wish I could go instantly from one to the other. (Being able to snap my fingers or wiggle my nose and get what I want... now THAT would be my superpower of choice.)

These super cute black and pink plaid pajamas from Victoria's Secret were on my Christmas/birthday list. Nick's family got them for me... and I love them. (Thanks, Kay & Glenn!!!)

LOVE them.

So soft, so comfy. They shrink just a tad, so if you also want some and are on the fence about sizing, just know that. I received a XS set and with just a bit of shrinking, they still fit well, just not as "slouchy" as they were before. ["Slouchy" is a necessary characteristic of good PJ sets ;-)]

I Didn't Realize I Was No-Fur, But I Am!

I've never considered myself a "against fur" (I have never purchased any fur, so I've never really thought about it) person until I noticed the ramped up marketing efforts FOR fur this year - at least in my local area.

It struck me the most when I was actually invited to an event sponsored by a local fur retailer. Not that I was downing the local retailer, but the host was actually a local niche publication which is all about women's empowerment, forward thinking, all that good stuff. So for me, as a marketer, I saw it as a HUGE disconnect. These are the women that I typically think of to have strong opinions - possibly including an anti-fur stance.

My 2010 Resolution

The only 2009 New Year's Resolution I stuck to was to not buy any beauty and bath products that weren't explicitly marked as "against animal testing". Lucky for me, there are a lot of great companies out there (mark., The Body Shop, included) that support the same ideals, so it's made my shopping pretty effortless to find those brands and be loyal to them.

So I'm thinking for 2010, my resolution that I'm going to keep is going to be an no-fur and no-leather purchase commitment. I imagine shoes will be a bit troublesome, so if you've got recommendations for me... send 'em on!

Thanks to Rachel (and Eva) for reminding us that while it's not always "pretty", there's a reason people are changing their ways! You wouldn't skin your sweet puppy or kitten would you? I sure wouldn't!

The bags are a bit on the expensive side, but if they're cut by hand and sew on a machine (or by hand), I'm sure each bag takes quite some time to make. And I'm even more confident that they aren't produced in overseas sweatshops. I'm ok with paying a premium for that.

I've been following these folks on twitter for a while, so it was cool to see them out at a local event. (I'm sure they do lots of events, but this was the first retail event I have noticed them at.)

How did they know that my family spoils our four-legged babies at Christmas, too?? ;-) Must be something about us "dog people".

In addition to a lot of great independents, they had what I think was a Reader's Digest mini-book store. They prices... were fantastic. They started around 30-40% off retail and even had discounts on their own prices. I bought a $16.00 book for just over $4.00. And yes, it was brand new.

So this whole "concept" is something that Mandy and I have been talking up for a looooong time. And I am really pumped to finally be getting it out there. It's not anywhere close to being as content-rich as it will be soon, but it's at least a start.

Winter Dress Coat

I am almost always in a North Face Denali jacket (local retail is my first choice, of course), but they're just too casual for all occasions, outfits, or mood ... plus, they're not really long either.

But alas, they are a NCSU college girl staple - see the following slideshow for proof a la Hillsborough Hike 2007 with the Black North Face Mafia better known as my Pi Phi sisters & Co.

So for all of the other occasions, I have a black pea coat that I've worn for a few years. I've recently come to realize though, that even though it's made by a "petites" brand, it really swallows me up. The shoulders are too big, there is no slim through the waste, and to me... that just doesn't scream "well put together look".

So I'm on the hunt!

They have a great selection, with lots of price points, but I suspect the large selection online is only carried in varying stores... I really don't remember seeing THAT many jackets there. I did try on the Tab Waist Jacket in red (I think it was the tab waist jacket).

How do you take wardrobe pieces that don't work individually (either for fit or season) and extend their presence in your closet? Mix and match!

The white with blue polka dots cap-sleeve button-down I have on the bottom layer of this of this outfit is super cute, but too short (as a short girl with a long torso, this is a common problem for me) - so I usually have to wear it with a long tank under it.

The cream/khaki colored tube top layer usually only gets to be worn during the summer (it's reversible with super cute stripes, just FYI).

Put them together... perfect for fall's cooler temps!

I moseyed on over to Bevello the last time I was in Beleza, and I was totally just going to look... I swear!

But of course, I walked out with these. It's a sickness, and I should be in therapy. But seriously, a good pair of jeans cannot be ignored. Especially a pair with such beautiful embellishments on the pockets!

I am SO excited to announce that they are opening up shop in Cary - MUCH closer to my neck of the woods... and just down the street from Swagger - in a few (give or take) weeks!

I'm thinking I'm going to need one of these monogrammed pashminas in black with red monogramming for any chilly Wolfpack tailgates and football games!

IE: Tomorrow. Dang. I didn't plan that one out very well.

Although... I'm not left out in the cold!

The entire E. Riley-Dorn wedding entourage received red pashminas as bridal party gifts just this past February - perfect for all of us State girls (see below)!

Big props go out to Mrs. (YES, MRS. - it still trips me out to write that) E. {Riley} Dorn for the great taste and outfitting the always classy look for tomorrow's big game vs. USC!

Rest assured, I can get by with my current selection of red or green pashminas, but one more never hurts! I hate having to pick one color to live with for good - a girl needs options! (That is yet another E. Riley Dorn principle, that every well-dressed woman should wardrobe by.)

And I do have some time until fall temperature actually set in for real. I can't imagine that the 90 degree days are actually legitimately over. I mean, I HAVE lived in NC my whole life... I know it doesn't actually work that way. (True Life: I'm also one of the many people that almost passed out at the NCSU vs. Clemson game two years ago when it went from a 60 degree tailgate to a 90 degree ballgame. I went home at half-time to shower and spend the rest of the day in the AC... something I never do.)

Almost a year ago, I got a great email in my inbox from a local reader:

I saw an ad in the independent but I haven't heard anything about it so thought I would ask you. The BF and I ended up out that direction one day a few months ago. I had just finished up with a laser appointment and it was about lunch time. We decided to venture more into North Raleigh and try something different. I'm really glad we did!

We pulled into Stonehenge Market - a shopping center we had not been to since going to the Crowley's of Stonehenge Cinco de Mayo bash back in '07 with the rest of the Buckhead sales team - and had lunch at Buffalo's (see my Buffalo's review here).

You can imagine my excitement when we were walking around the shopping center and I saw this cute little boutique called "GiGi's"... obviously, I had to stop in!

I was being good on my budget during that trip, but boy was it tough to have such restraint! Their selection was fantastic - carrying brands and pieces I have not seen or overdone locally - and the store really was very well merchandised and had great <$100.00 price points! Do be sure to check out their website (you can do some shopping online!), their email list, and now... their blog. I was really excited to see this addition as it came very shortly after my conversation with the boutique owner about how I'd heard about her store from a reader of my blog! (I always like to share good retailing secrets with independent owners who are a joy to shop with.)

I think the thing I liked most about the boutique was not their realistic approach to fashion that doesn't break the bank (although it is quite awesome), but the fact that the store was so well merchandised. Nothing was overly trendy (ie: not going to be worn next year) and everything was super appropriate for multiple uses - casual, work, going out, etc. It really does a wardrobe budget wonders to buy pieces that are good fits for anytime wear!

I can't wait until my next laser appointment (in about 6 weeks) so I'll have a good excuse to make the cross-town trip again.

New eBoutique on the Block: Dixie Patches

I usually keep the "New Boutique on the Block" title for new local brick-and-mortar boutiques, but you really can't blame any entrepreneur(s) for going online instead of battling the extraordinary cost of commercial/retail rent!

DixiePatches has a sunny color scheme and website that's easy on the eyes and most of their photography is chock full of Southern charm. The logo is a little hard to decipher at first, but after first look you can pick out the outline of our fair Southern states. Even going two color would probably make it easier to read.

There are only a few merchandise options in each category (Southern Charms, Southern Belles, Southern Gentlemen, Dixie Dogs, and Fishin'/Huntin'/Tailgatin'), but one would guess there is a lot more to come in their future. I also don't know any guy who hunts in a button down and bow tie, but I really like where they're going with that. One should always "dress for success", right? ;-)

Overall, I think this site is a best bet for Southern Gentlemen: Friendly price points for hats and bow ties. I also see the camo cooler in the boyfriend's future.

Full disclaimer: I automatically love any company that sends a free koozie your way for signing up for their email list. Other than the fact that I love the premise of this whole site too, I'll still tried to this review as objective as possible. I'm crossing my fingers that the emails are no more often than once a month and might include a sale or coupon or two!

I had the always enjoyable opportunity to stop in Beleza last week and visit with P. Dail and Sara (the most charming fair trade boutique owners you'll ever meet) and they told me about a new store opening up just down the sidewalk from them.

Bevello has received quite a lot of local attention in the blogosphere (etc., etc.) this weekend for it's fresh approach to boutique fashion and shopping in general. I can't wait to stop in sometime soon (this week maybe?) and visit the new store!

It's hard to know where to begin with this one. Other than, hooray, a celebrity has launched a beauty product we actually want to purchase (maybe as a Father's Day gift) this very instant?

Will Ferrell is launching a sunscreen line called Will Ferrell Sunscreen. The SPF 30s come in Sun Stroke, Sexy Hot Tan, and Forbidden Fruit. We're not sure of the differences between these, other than different tag lines on the bottles like "and the rich cream brought protection and comfort and it was good" (Forbidden Fruit).

Each bottle costs $12 and all proceeds benefit Cancer for College’s College Willpower Scholarship Fund, which grants college scholarships to cancer survivors and amputees.

Having supported the charity for a long time, Will explains why he decided to continue his efforts with sunscreen: “I’ve always dreamed of owning a lotion company. And I’ve always hated cancer.”

While I was browsing the same website that I found my recent boot addiction on I also happened to stumble upon these sweet jeans.The fleur de lis is one of my favorite embellishments/designs/patterns... and on jeans! (Although, sadly - I'm a little girl and those jeans looks like a pretty relaxed fit... so they're most likely a no go for me. I'm very particular about the fit of my jeans.)

Greenwashing is So Last Season

I'm pretty over greenwashing - all kinds of over it, in fact.

It really bugs me that I received an email today with an Earth Day sale advertising "20% off everything green"... eco-sketchy!

20% off bags made from recycled plastics? Fabulous!
20% off soft tees made from organic cotton? OK!

20% off something "green" that was shipped from across the globe? C'mon now, it's Earth Day tomorrow... not St. Patty's (I'm not a hater though - by all means, go for it on St. Patty's day)! I don't think Mother Nature would approve.

The Nature Conservancy has a cool calculator for your carbon footprint here. It's not all encompassing, but it's a nice little "home" gauge, for how you're doing at home. I'm happy to say we're below average (wooh, hah!) and half of our consumption comes from travel, which would be hard to cut down more. I'm game to give it a try though!

I love Cotton (notice the capitalization) - the world HQ actually happens to be in my own backyard in Cary, NC. The "fabric of our lives" jingle will probably stick in my head from childhood, clear through the rest of my life.

I'm sure there are some good deals to be had on some fab finds... for a good cause.

Rednecky or not, I've always deep-down loved the summer look of destroyed denim against a nice tan. Although, I usually prefer it with flip flops or boots and a cute tank top, because it'd be really easy to go overboard wit this look. If your jeans are "destroyed", then the rest of your look shouldn't be.

This isn't something that particularly applies to anything in my closet (that I can think of right off hand), but there is still plenty of drool-worthy home products, DVDs, CDs/iPods, etc. to be had a Best Buy. I received the following tidbit in their eNewsletter today for Reward Zone members.

Did you know you can recycle electronics at your local Best Buy® store? Bring in your old TVs, computers, DVD players and more and we’ll recycle them for you. There is a $10 recycling fee for each TV, CRT, monitor or laptop you bring in, but we’ll give you a $10 Best Buy Gift Card to offset the cost.

Read more.It's actually pretty good to know info, because most recycling events I've seen have a charge for screens/monitors/etc., at least this way Best Buy is easing the cost a little bit by basically buying you a DVD or CD as a result.

I was out of town last week for work. The area I visited didn't have many shopping options, but there was a new shopping center there. The Old Navy had a ton of stuff on sale. I bought this red belted trench rain coat for $24. There were tons of cute things at Old Navy right now. I was very pleasantly surprised.

They're Like Sorority Shirts... for Southerners!

Well, "sorority shirts" and "Southerners" aren't particularly mutually exclusive (in case your degrees didn't require two statistics courses) either though.

Back to the point - all the rage amongst the Southern bloggers lately (including one of my personal favorites):
Their categories seem to encompass three major areas of apparel - t-shirts, thongs, and accessories. ~~Yup, you read that right. Apparently though, thongs are getting their own section, they must hot sellers. But you ladies would never tell, right?~~ *See note at bottom.

I can't stand dirty hands and apparently, it's finally taking a toll as the back of my hands are straight up DRY lately. Adrianne and I have been chatting about how this seems to be a particularly dry winter - I've personally never had to beef up the moisturizer for my face until this year.
